Lifetime’s ‘Gabby Douglas Story’ Scores 3.8 Million Viewers

The original movie based on the Olympic gold medalist was also the most tweeted non-sports program, according to Nielsen

Lifetime’s “The Gabby Douglas Story,” based on the gold-medal-winning Olympic gymnast, pulled in 3.8 million total viewers on Saturday.

gabby douglasThe original movie fell short of the 4.4 million total viewers Lifetime’s “Lizzie Borden Took an Ax” drew the previous week, but like “Lizzie Borden,” “The Gabby Douglas Story” was also the night’s most tweeted non-sports program, according to Nielsen SocialGuide. The film averaged 1.4 million viewers in the Adult 25-54 demographic and 1.2 million in Lifetime’s key Women 18-49 demo.

Following the fictionalized movie, an hour-long documentary about Douglas (above right) averaged 3.0 million viewers, the network said Monday.

“The Gabby Douglas Story” stars Regina King as Douglas’ mother Natalie Hawkins, Sydney Mikayla as a young Douglas, and Imani Hakim (top) as the older Olympian. Douglas also appears as herself in the telefilm.
