The man arrested for stabbing a security guard at the home of supermodel Miranda Kerr has been charged with attempted murder, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday.

The Australia man, identified as Shaun Anthony Haywood, has been charged with one felony count each of attempted willful, deliberate and premeditated murder; aggravated mayhem; and assault with a deadly weapon, a knife.

Haywood is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Van Nuys, California. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.

According to prosecutors, an on-site security guard confronted Haywood who had hopped the fence at Kerr’s Malibu home earlier this month. The intruder grabbed the guard’s knife and slashed his face, and the guard responded by shooting the intruder. Both were airlifted to a local hospital where both were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Kerr was not home at the time of the incident.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Lost Hills Station. Haywood’s bail is recommended at $1 million.

This is not the first time Kerr’s home has been the scene of a crime. In 2009, while Kerr was dating actor Orlando Bloom, teenage Beverly Hills gang the Bling Ring broke into Bloom’s house, where they stole jewelry and clothing from the couple.
