Fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers, rejoice.
Major League Baseball asked a federal bankruptcy judge on Friday to force the McCourts to sell the team, the Los Angeles Times reported.
If MLB succeeds in pushing a sale through, that could open up the bidding for TV rights to the team’s games, or, given existing contracts, enable Fox to extend its deal.
Frank McCourt had previously agreed to a deal with Fox Sports to extend the deal, which runs through 2013.

However, MLB rejected it, invalidating a possible settlement between Frank and his wife Jamie. Fox still holds exclusive negotiating rights for 14 months.
After MLB’s rejection, the Dodgers filed for bankruptcy, which McCourt blamed on the blockage of a TV deal. His attorneys tried to use that as a reason to auction off its TV rights, much to the (unvoiced) chagrin of Fox.
The McCourts have until an Oct. 12 hearing to propose a reorganization plan, but MLB is asking the judge to act before that so the team can properly prepare for the 2012 season. The Dodgers have already been eliminated from playoff contention.
