NBC Picks Up ‘America’s Got Talent’ for Season 6

Network announced the renewal of the hit reality competition

The next generation of marginally talented Americans kept hope alive Tuesday as NBC renewed its summer hit "America's Got Talent" for a sixth season.

No surprise there. The show has been a lone bright spot in what has been an otherwise difficult summer for NBC, ratings-wise.

All three of the "America's Got Talent" judges — Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel, will return, as will host Nick Cannon.

Morgan is set to replace Larry King as the host of CNN's 9 p.m. hour. His "Talent" contract was renegotiated to enable him to take the CNN gig.

The renewal was announced by Paul Telegdy, executive vice president for alternative programming and production at NBC and Universal Media Studios.

"'AGT' continues to be a ratings sensation and has hit it out of the ballpark creatively this season … We have a dream team of celebrity judges — Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel and Piers Morgan — and coupled with our versatile host Nick Cannon, we're looking forward to an even bigger summer next year," Telegdy said.

"America's Got Talent" is produced by FremantleMedia North America and Simon Cowell's SYCO Television.

Season five of "America's Got Talent" wraps up with a two-night finale Sept. 14 and 15.
