Katie Holmes is bouncing back from her failed marriage to Tom Cruise by returning to Broadway in "Dead Accounts," playwright Theresa Rebeck told TheWrap.

The "Batman Begins" actress made her Broadway debut in a 2008 revival of  Arthur Miller's "All My Sons" opposite John Lithgow and Dianne Wiest. Her performance brought in mixed reviews.

In "Dead Accounts," Holmes is slated to play a 30-something woman who is stuck living with her parents in Cincinnati. Her brother upsets this delicate balance when he comes home with a lot of money and a missing wife.

Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien is slated to stage the play at the Music Box Theatre this fall. No opening date has been set and no other cast members were announced.

"It's beyond cool, honestly. The whole team is lively as hell. I am positively tingling with delight," Rebeck told TheWrap.

Rebeck has been a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for drama for her 2003 play. Her play  "Seminar," starring Alan Rickman, closed earlier this year on Broadway, and her play "Mauritius," ran on Broadway in 2007. Rebeck also was a creator of the NBC series "Smash."

Holmes recently ended her high-profile union with Cruise, announcing in June that she was filing for divorce in New York after five years together.

Though never out of the gossip pages, Holmes' acting career stalled during her marriage. She had racked up an impressive list of credits in such films as "The Ice Storm" (1997) and "Wonder Boys" (2000), but after tying the knot with Cruise, was largely consigned to box office and critical failures like "Mad Money" (2008) and saw Maggie Gyllenhaal replace her in the Batman sequel "The Dark Knight" (2008).
