Ratings: CBS Tops Thursday Full of NFL Preseason Preemptions

Preliminary Nielsen numbers will appear inflated due to local market football impact

CBS scored a cloudy win on Thursday night, as broadcast networks were impacted by NFL preseason preemptions in local markets.

NBC came in second place, according to early data. ABC and Fox tied for third in the key 18-49 demographic, with the former topping the latter in the total viewer tiebreaker in preliminary numbers.

The story for fifth place was similar, with the Spanish-language nets knotting up; Univision bested Telemundo in total viewers.

The ratings credited to individual networks and shows below are subject to change.

CBS was first in ratings with a 1.8 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 6.6 million, according to early numbers. Following reruns, “Big Brother” at 9 p.m. earned a 2.4/9 and 7.7 million viewers. “Under the Dome” at 10 received a 1.4/5 and 5.7 million viewers.

NBC was second in ratings with a 1.3/5 and in viewers with 5.9 million. “Food Fighters” at 8 had a 1.2/5 and 5.2 million viewers. “Dateline Mystery” at 9 got a 1.4/5 and 6.2 million viewers.

ABC and Fox tied for third in ratings, both with a 0.9/4. ABC was third in total viewers with 4.4 million; Fox was fourth with 3.7 million.

For ABC, “Astronaut Wives Club” at 8 posted a 0.9/4 and 4.6 million viewers. “Mistresses” followed at 9 with a 1.1/4 and 4.3 million viewers. Closing out ABC primetime, “Rookie Blue” received a 0.8/3 and 4.3 million viewers.

Univision and Telemundo tied for fifth in ratings, both with a 0.7/3. Univision was fifth in total viewers with 2 million; Telemundo was sixth with 1.6 million.

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.4/2 and in viewers with 1.5 million. “Beauty & the Beast” at 8 had a 0.5/2 and 1.7 million viewers. A repeat followed.
