Sandra Bullock Says She's Not Doing a Sequel to 'The Heat': I've Done Two Horrible Ones Already

Director Paul Feig tells TheWrap a script is in the works

Director Paul Feig is game to make a follow-up to his hit summer comedy “The Heat,” but it sounds like he needs to work on his pitch to his leading lady.

“I'm not doing a sequel to ‘The Heat,'” Sandra Bullock told TheWrap at the Tuesday premiere of her new film “Gravity.” “I've done two sequels. They were horrible. What Melissa [McCarthy] and I had was beautiful. We might do another film together. I think we should do a silent film together.”

The two sequels that Bullock labeled turkeys were “Speed 2: Cruise Control” and “Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous,” neither one of them likely to join the Criterion Collection, so it's easy to see why the Oscar winner is gun shy.

Despite Bullock's reservations, it sounds as though Feig and Twentieth Century Fox, the studio behind the first film, are powering ahead with plans for another adventure. The director said that Katie Dippold, the screenwriter behind the comedy hit, has already finished a first draft of a possible sequel that met his expectations.

However, he told TheWrap at the “Gravity” premiere that he couldn't imagine the film without Bullock or her co-star Melissa McCarthy.

“It would be very hard,” Feig said. “They're so great together. Their chemistry is so awesome. I would be very sad if I didn't have both of them back.”

Despite premiering in the heart of the summer against films like “Man of Steel” and “Despicable Me 2,” the R-rated buddy cop comedy racked up nearly $225 million worldwide. Feig thinks he knows why “The Heat” was able to break out of the pack.

“People wanted to have fun this summer and they wanted to see strong women being funny,” Feig said. “It's really breaking down the Hollywood prejudice about putting women in lead roles. After ‘Bridesmaids’ and then this, I feel like we're really breaking down the wall. Look, movies starring women and funny women can make money, so lets make more.”

Next up for Feig is a reunion with McCarthy in “Susan Cooper,” which he described as a female James Bond film.

Bullock has her own plans to team with McCarthy again, even if they don't involve suiting up for “The Heat 2.” The actress told TheWrap that she enjoys organizing gatherings with her son Louis and McCarthy's daughters Vivian and Georgette.

“We do well with our playdates,” Bullock said. “We're going to keep doing sequels to our playdates.”

I think they should do “Her Girl Friday”. and stop making these silly movies, not worth it.

I think they should actually totally re-make the whole movie The Heat, lol. I mean i totally LOVE Sandra Bullock in Speed, Miss Congeniality, etc. but i would love to see these characters play this movie… My Character Re-Write: Katherine Heigl should play as the FBI Agent and her partner Cop should be Rebel Wilson. Her boss should be Shawn Wayans and her secret admirer would still be Damon Wayans. Rebel Wilsons boss should be Will Smith. The street guy who Rebel Wilson tells to jump Katherine Heigl's undies should be Chris Rock. Chris Tucker should be the guy smoking weed on the corner and who Rebel Wilson Interrogates. Anthony Anderson, Kat Williams & Ice Cube are his corner smoking buddies. And the Guy Rebel Wilson tells off in the Bar and than Kisses should be Dwayne Johnson. And Katherine Heigl's Disco Bar Dancing guy with the Cell Phone should be Chris Pine, and Channing Tatum should be the one she makes out with and gives her car to, heck fit BOTH of them into the movie, yummy! LoL. The Albino should be Matthew Lillard and the Bad Cop should Jet Li, lol. Now as for Rebel Wilson's family, the brothers should be Adam Sandler as the brother who got out of jail & Sean William Scott and Matthew Lillard as the 2 other Brothers. The 2 girlfriends should be Emma Stone & Isla Fisher. The Mom should be Leslie Mann. The Dad should be Jason Statham. The couch hooker they interrogate should be Asia Argento and you know, she should have a friend their with her, i suggest Eliza Dushku. The mom on the toilet should be Rosie O'Donnel or someone funny. And Adele Laurie Blue Adkins should be the one Rebel Wilson hits in the Bar & blames on Katherine Heigl when she steals her files out of the purse. Now that's a movie i would pay to see anytime! I mean there are plenty of great actors out there, lol.

Nope! The Heat sucked. Melissa McCarthy is not funny! She even makes Mike and Molly unwatchable at times!

Both Speed 2 and Miss Cong2 were good standalone films not as good as the originals but shouldn't be classed as horrible sequels.

The Heat was horrible. A couple yuks early in the film as the characters were established, but you can't do that in a sequel. The second half was very un-funny. I really don't see what people liked about it.
