Sundance 2013: RADiUS Strikes Again, Acquiring ‘Inequality For All’

The Weinstein Company's multi-platform label has now picked up four films at Sundance

RADiUS has made its second deal in less than 24 hours, acquiring “Inequality for All,” a documentary about social and economic inequality in America. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday.

The Weinstein Company’s multi-platform label has been aggressive at the festival, buying four movies so far – “20 Feet From Stardom,” “Concussion,” “Lovelace” and “Inequality.” It made its very first acquisition at this festival a year ago, buying "Bachelorette."

"Inequality," the second documentary RADiUS has bought at Sundance,  dives into the chasm between the wealthy and the destitute and how that is impacting the middle class and the United States economy.

Director Jacob Kornbluth (pictured above with Reich) follows subjects at the top and bottom of the income chain while Clinton administration veteran Robert Reich plays guide and lecturer. The former Secretary of Labor turned UC Berkeley professor traces the progression and continued impact of this inequality.

The film aims to do for income inequality what Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth" did for climate change, and so far critics have been effusive in their praise for the film.

The Salt Lake City Tribune's Sean P. Means' praised its "lively charts ad graphs" while Daniel Fienberg at Hitfix described it as "provocative and smart."

"It's also energetic and fun, Fienbeg wrote. "It's 'An Inconvenient Truth' for economics, but it's also much better."
