Watch ‘Kung Fury’: A Crowdfunded Ode to Absurd ’80s Action (Video)

Writer, director and star David Sandberg releases the short film for free on YouTube

“Kung Fury” — a crowdfunded ode to the ’80s featuring Nazis, dinosaurs, vikings and a renegade time-traveling, kung-fu kicking cop after Hitler — is now available for your viewing pleasure.

The comedy, which debuted at the Directors’ Fortnight during the Cannes Film Festival earlier this month, is now on YouTube.

The half-hour short film starring writer and director David Sandberg was funded through a Kickstarter campaign launched in December 2013. More than 17,000 people backed its $630,000 budget.

Now over 2.4 million people have watched it, and reviews are glowing.

“My favorite part is everything,” one YouTube user wrote in a comment section filled with praise.

Even a person with the username “YourMovieSucksDOTorg” was impressed. “This is actually amazing. Thank you for making this,” the satisfied viewer wrote.

In an update to his Kickstarter backers earlier this month, Sandberg expressed gratitude for the wave of support for the film and wrote that a feature film is starting to appear like a real possibility.
