Ratings: Garth Brooks ‘Live at Notre Dame’ Got 8.9 Million Friends in Low Places for CBS

Country concert is Sunday’s most-watched non-football show

Garth Brooks put the “big” (and “country”) in “big country” on CBS Sunday, with his “Live at Notre Dame” special, bringing in 8.9 million total viewers. That was primetime’s most eyeballs for anything but NFL football.

NBC was first in ratings with a 4.0 rating/15 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 13.4 million, according to preliminary numbers. Those numbers come courtesy of “Football Night in America” and a tight Los Angeles Chargers-Pittsburgh Steelers “Sunday Night Football” game.

Fox was second in ratings with a 2.0/7 and third in viewers with 6 million. Following an NFL overrun, postgame show “The OT” at 7:30 p.m. posted a 2.6/10 and 8.6 million viewers. “The Simpsons” at 8 p.m. put up a 1.6/6 and 4.4 million viewers. “Bob’s Burgers” at 8:30 had a 1.2/5 and 3 million viewers. At 9, “Family Guy” got a 1.2/4 and 2.7 million viewers. At 9:30, “Rel” received a 0.6/2 and 1.6 million viewers.

CBS was third in ratings with a 1.1/4 and second in viewers with 8.3 million. A football overrun combining with “60 Minutes” from 7-8 averaged a 1.3/5 and 10.5 million viewers. From 8-9, the conclusion of “60 Minutes” and the start of the Garth special pieced together a 1.3/5 and 9.3 million viewers. At 9, the Brooks’ concert landed a 1.2/4 and 8.4 million viewers. At 10, the end to the Notre Dame show ran into a rerun, averaging a 0.6/3 and 4.9 million viewers for the final hour of primetime.

ABC was fourth in ratings with a 0.7/3 and in viewers with 4 million. “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at 7 had a 0.8/3 and 5.4 million viewers. At 8, “Dancing With the Stars: Juniors” got a 0.6/2 and 3.8 million viewers. “Shark Tank” at 9 received a 0.7/3 and 3.5 million viewers. The “Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Holiday Special” at 10 closed primetime to a 0.9/4 and 3.3 million viewers.

Univision was fifth in ratings with a 0.6/2 and in viewers with 1.8 million.

Telemundo was sixth in ratings with a 0.4/1 and seventh in viewers with 943,000

The CW was seventh in ratings with a 0.3/1 and sixth in viewers with 1 million. “Supergirl” at 8 had a 0.4/1 and 1.3 million viewers. At 9, “Charmed” got a 0.3/1 and 923,000 viewers.
