Ronan,  a genocidal leader of the alien Kree race, is after the Guardians  — led by Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord — to get an artifact that they stole. But the even more dangerous Marvel villain Thanos (Josh Brolin) wants it to. If he gets it, the big purple bad guy seen at the end of “The Avengers” will wipe out all of Ronan’s enemies.

Ronan is played by Lee Pace, who also stars in AMC’s new 1980s computer drama “Halt and Catch Fire,” which has no aliens, so far.

“Guardians of the Galaxy,” co-starring Zoe Saldana, Bradley CooperVin Diesel, Dave Bautista, John C. Reilly, Laura Haddock, and Benicio del Toro, hits theaters on Aug. 1.
