Illumination Entertainment’s ‘Minions’ Tops $500 Million at Foreign Box Office for Universal

The little yellow guys have had the No. 1 movie worldwide for the past three weeks

Illumination Entertainment’s animated “Minions” will cross $500 million at the international box office Monday, distributor Universal Pictures announced.

“Minions” has been the No. 1 globally for the three consecutive weeks and has opened in the top spot in 55 territories and counting. Its current worldwide gross is $761.8 million, so clearly, all that mumbling translates.

“Minions” posted the biggest animated opening weekend of all-time in 29 territories including Brazil, France, Mexico, Russia and the U.K. It also recorded Universal’s biggest opening weekend of all-time in seven territories and the biggest opening weekend of any film ever in Russia and Venezuela.

Under chief executive Chris Meledandri, Illumination has taken a global approach and points proudly to a creative team that it says comes from 29 different nations.
