Louis C.K. on Crying Over Bruce Springsteen, Parenting: ‘I’m Not There to Make Them Happy’ (Video)

“I have to raise them with the tools to get through a terrible life,” the comedian told Conan O’Brien of his child-rearing technique

Louis C.K. doesn’t care what his kids want.

“I’m not there to make them happy,” the comedian said on “Conan” Thursday night.

“I’m not raising the children, I’m raising the grown-ups that they’re going to be,” he continued, sounding kind of sweet. Until he added: “I have to raise them with the tools to get through a terrible life.”

Not all tools, though.

He isn’t so crazy about smartphones and other new technologies, which allow children to avoid real human interaction and may stunt empathy development, he told O’Brien.

And the star of “Louie” is no hypocrite. C.K. forces himself to feel human emotions, he said, recounting a recent time where he had to pull off the road because he was bawling uncontrollably over Bruce Springsteen’s “Jungleland.”
