Madonna drew the ire of many of her fans on Tuesday when she posted an Instagram photo of Margaret Thatcher, the former prime minister of Britain.
The post included the Thatcher quote, “If you set out to be liked, you would be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and you would achieve nothing.” Madonna included the hashtags #unapologetic and #rebelheart, as well as the caption “Thank you, Margaret Thatcher” with the post (see below).
The Queen of Pop quickly deleted the photo after fans took to social media to voice their displeasure. Read some of their tweets below.

Thatcher remains an incredibly divisive figure in British history. While those on the right hold her up as a hero, those on the left vilify her.
She voted in favor of several measures seen as detrimental to the LGBT community, including the controversial Section 28, which said local authorities”shall not intentionally promote homosexuality,” as well as “promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship.” The law has since been repealed.
