Michelle Monaghan Cast in Netflix Drama ‘Messiah’

Michelle Monaghan has been cast to star in the new drama “Messiah” from Netflix.

“The Path” star will play U.S. intelligence officer Eva Geller, who finds a foe in al-Masih, an incendiary religious and political figure from Syria.

Michael Petroni created the series, which has been described as a 21st-century political thriller about a Middle Eastern man who builds after a following after he claims he has been sent from God, and the world’s reaction to his rise. The story will be told from several character viewpoints, including Monaghan’s intelligence agent, a Palestinian refugee, an Israeli Shin Bet officer and a Latino preacher and his daughter.

Petroni executive produces with Mark Burnett, Roma Downey, Andrew Deane of Industry Entertainment and director James McTeigue.

Monaghan’s recent credits include HBO’s “True Detective,” and movies “Patriot’s Day,” “Trucker,” “Gone Baby Gone” and “Mission Impossible.”

Monaghan is repped by ICM Partners and Sloane Offer.
