Ratings: ‘X Factor’ Rises; ‘Survivor’ Premiere Slightly Down

Despite small drop in key demo, "Survivor: Philippines" draws largest audience of night with season premiere

Fox's "The X Factor" gained slightly in its second Wednesday of the season to give Fox an overall win, while CBS's "Big Brother" finale and "Survivor" premiere took minor ratings hits, according to preliminary numbers.

Airing "The X Factor" throughout the night, Fox took first place in ratings with a 3.5 rating/10 share in the 18-49 demographic most important to advertisers, and in total viewers with 9.4 million. Overall, "The X Factor" was up 6 percent in the demo over last Wednesday, when it faced "The Voice" for an hour. It had an 11 percent gain in total viewers.

CBS drew second place in ratings and total viewers with a 2.8/8 and 9.3 million. Facing competition from "The X Factor," both the premiere of "Survivor: Philippines" and the season finale of "Big Brother" saw modest declines. "Survivor" at 8 dipped 9 percent from last fall's "Survivor: South Pacific" premiere, taking a 3.1/10, but drew 11.2 million total viewers, the largest audience of the night. The "Big Brother" season finale at 9:30 drew a 2.5/7 — down 14 percent from last year's comparable telecast — and took 7.4 million total viewers.

NBC, which ran repeats throughout the night, shared third place in ratings with Univision with a 1.4/4 and took third place in total viewers outright with 4.9 million total viewers. (Univision took fifth in total viewers with 3.4 million.)

ABC, also airing repeats, came in fifth in ratings and fourth in total viewers with a 1.1/3 and 3.6 million.
