AMC is further bolstering its scripted slate by greenlighting two new pilots.
The first, "Low Winter Sun," is "a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption" that begins with the murder of a Detroit cop by his fellow detective, with the culprit becoming enmeshed in the Detroit underworld as a result. Based on a 2006 British miniseries, the pilot is written by Chris Mundy ("Criminal Minds," "Cold Case"), who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner for the series.
The second pilot, currently untitled, is a legal thriller "with major political, personal and ethical stakes." From Richard LaGravanese (pictured) of "The Fisher King," who serves as writer and executive producer, and Tony Goldwyn ("Justified," "Damages"), who'll direct and executive-produce, the pilot follows a district attorney who uncovers new evidence in a sensational murder case that prompts a reinvestigation. The project is "an exploration of personal morality and how people struggle with the shades of grey found in the absence of a simple, ordered moral universe," according to AMC.
Joel Stillerman, AMC's executive vice president of original programming, production and digital content, said the new projects "represent an opportunity to continue what our existing scripted series have established so well — a commitment to great writing, and shows that tackle complex characters in a genuine and authentic way."
