How Important Is Sleep to Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts?

Documentary Channel airs Haskell Wexler’s documentary about sleep deprivation on Hollywood sets

Is Hollywood suffering from lack of sleep?

The Documentary Channel on June 25 will air "Who Needs Sleep?" from Oscar winner Haskell Wexler.

In his 2006 doc, the longtime cinematographer and filmmaker talks to the likes of Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, Annette Bening, Billy Crystal, Paul Newman and Tyne Daly on the health risks of long production work days, which can last more than 14 hours.

The film is sure to irk studio executives and producers who believe long hours on sets are an economic necessity.

"Haskell Wexler’s documentary is a wakeup call to a deadly serious issue of sleep deprivation," Kate Pearson, senior VP of programming at Documentary Channel, said in a statement.
