Miss USA Goes to Vegas

The pageant returns to the U.S. on Aug. 23, for the first time since 2006

Miss Universe is going to Vegas.

NBC and Telemundo will carry the 2010 pageant on Aug. 23, from the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

It’s the first time the pageant has been held in the U.S. since 2006, when Los Angeles hosted. In the last three years it has been televised from the Bahamas, Vietnam and Mexico.

The shift make sense. The pageant is co-owned by NBC Universal and Donald Trump — and the Miss USA Pageant, which they also co-own, is held in Las Vegas each year.

"Las Vegas is so fabulous, we had to come back again for the Miss Universe Pageant," said Paula Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization.
