Jimmy Kimmel Thanks Seth Meyers for Being Awards Show Host ‘Litmus Test’ Ahead of Oscars

Jimmy Kimmel is set to return as the host of the 2018 Academy Awards, but the late-night host says he’s not sure how he’ll handle the sexual misconduct issue in March.

At least Kimmel can take a few of his cues from Golden Globes host Seth Meyers, who joked about the issue on Sunday night and was largely well received.

“I felt like Seth made a joke that was specifically for me and my wife,” Kimmel said at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday. “We were sitting on the couch watching it, and we really started laughing. He said his monologue was like sending the first dog into space and see if it came out alive.”

“And I did feel that way. I was like, ‘I have to see what Seth says and how it is received,’” Kimmel said. “I do thank him for being that litmus test.”

But the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host said he couldn’t be sure how exactly what he’d talk about at the Oscars, because the show is still a few months out.

“As far as how I will handle it, the problem is that it’s two months from now,” he said. “It’s almost like getting into a hot tub or something. You can’t know what the temperature is until you get there… If you ask me the night before I’ll have a much better answer for you.”

“I’m sure that it’ll be part of the subject matter,” he concluded. “Unless there’s a nuclear weapon heading to Sacramento that night, then we’ll probably go right to that.”
