Judge Dismisses Carly Simon Claims Against Starbucks

Court throws out the singer’s claims that the coffee chain should’ve told her it was exiting music business

Carly Simon’s lawsuit against Starbucks, which shut down its music business less than a week before it was due to release the singer’s album, was thrown out by a judge Monday, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

A Los Angeles District Court judge dismissed the claims on summary judgment, ruling that Starbucks didn’t violate any duties to Simon. The singer argued last month that even though she didn’t have a contract with the coffee chain, she did have one with its distributor — Hear Music — and that it was obliged to inform her about its internal deliberations that would affect her.
