“Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman has nixed a fan theory that went viral earlier this week which suggested that some of the most intense events of the series were actually a dream.

“Going on record to answer this,” Kirkman tweeted Friday. He was referencing an article published on Uproxx that claimed that the character of Grimes had never woken up from his coma and that the series was taking place in his head.

“Rick is NOT still in a coma,” he wrote. “The events of TWD are definitely happening.”

Of course Kirkman couldn’t resist kidding around with his fans.

“But Carl and everyone else are all imagined,” Kirkman tweeted. “He actually NEVER found his family. He’s been crazy since he killed his first zombie. ?”

“The Walking Dead” walked away with a new ratings record on Oct. 13 when its Season 5 premiere was the zombie drama’s highest rated episode ever with 17.3 million total viewers. Nearly 11 million of those viewers were in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
