The couple jointly announced their separation Tuesday on Paltrow’s lifestyle website Goop, in a post titled “Conscious Uncoupling.”

“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate,” the statement on Goop said.
Paltrow, 41, and Coldplay lead singer, Martin, 37, tied the knot on Dec. 5, 2003. They have two children together, daughter Apple, 9, and son Moses, 7.
The A-listers vowed to work together in raising their children.
“We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner,” the statement said.

Paltrow’s tightly-controlled image came under scrutiny last year when word spread that Vanity Fair planned to pen a controversial profile on the star.
Last month, the magazine’s editor Graydon Carter, addressed rumors that Vanity Fair had been working on what was described as an “epic takedown” of Paltrow.
In an editor’s letter posted the magazine’s website, Carter said he had discussed the article with Paltrow, and assured her that the rumors of a so-called hit piece were being blown out of proportion.
