Hulu CEO Bites Networks’ Hands: ‘Traditional TV Has Too Many Ads’

Disney, one of the site’s owners, says Jason Kilar’s comments “personal and clearly not shared by anyone at Walt Disney”

Hulu CEO Jason Kilar has said more than the site's owners wanted to hear about advertising on traditional TV.

In a blog post Wednesday announcing that Hulu will again air Viacom's "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" and "The Colbert Report," Kilar also offered his thoughts on traditional TV — including that it "has too many ads" and that Hulu's ads are "2-times as effectve."

Did we mention that Hulu is owned by News Corp., Walt Disney and Comcast-owned NBCUniversal, keepers of traditional TV networks Fox, ABC, and NBCU?

Disney told The Financial Times that Kilar's views were “personal and clearly not shared by anyone at Walt Disney.”

The newspaper said people went even further in anonymous griping.

“If I were given billions of dollars worth of programming, I too could probably build a business,” said one person identified by the paper as "close to Hulu" who said the company’s owners were furious with Kilar.

Kilar did not immediately reply to an email seeking comment Thursday, and a Hulu rep declined to comment."

"The Daily Show" and "Colbert" were pulled from Hulu last year over a conflict with Viacom.
