Colin Farrell will join the cast of Warner Bros.’ “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” TheWrap has learned.

The “Harry Potter” spin-off will also star Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler and Alison Sudol.

The film follows Newt Scamander (Redmayne) as he meanders through New York’s secret community of witches and wizards. The film is set 70 years before aspiring wizard Harry Potter reads Scamander’s book during his first year at Hogwarts.

Farrell will play Graves, a wizard who meets Scamander in New York.

The spin-off will be directed by David Yates, who also directed the last four “Harry Potter” movies in the eight-film franchise. J.K. Rowling wrote the script, which is based on the 2001 book of the same name.

The film is being produced by David Heyman, Rowling, Steve Kloves (who scripted all but one of the “Harry Potter” films) and Lionel Wigram, who served as an executive producer on the last four installments of the blockbuster franchise. The film is set to hit theaters on November 18, 2016.

Farrell is currently starring as Ray Velcoro in HBO’s second season of “True Detective.”

His credits include “Miami Vice,” “Crazy Heart,” “Seven Psychopaths” and “Winter’s Tale.” He won a 2009 Golden Globe award for his performance in “In Bruges.”

He is represented by CAA, LBI Entertainment and attorney Steve Warren.
