‘Happy Endings’ Sneak Peek: Penny’s Play Is Very Telling (Exclusive Video)

Things aren't looking good for the ABC comedy's big wedding in TheWrap's preview for Friday's episodes

Spoiler alert! Save “Happy Endings” crew, it looks like Penny (Casey Wilson) and Pete’s (Nick Zano) wedding is in jeopardy…

In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak peek for Friday’s episodes, Penny presents her new play, which is very discouragingly titled, “Black Plague: A Love Story.”

“I will be playing the role of the ‘Black Plague,’” Penny tells the gang, who've assembled for a table read of the play.

On a recent visit to the “Happy Endings” set, Wilson talked about the episode and revealed that fan favorite and Penny’s off-again-on-again gay BFF substitute, Derrick (Stephen Guarino), returns with his theatre group to stage the play.

“I mean it was the most rinky-dink production that we did,” Wilson said. “We filmed it for like three days and it felt like we were doing a Summer Stock.”

“Like the sets were so sad,” she continued. “It was so stupid and fun and we got to work with a choreographer. All my dreams came true over the course of this episode.”

It didn't look good for “Happy Endings” when it debuted in its Friday night slot on March 29, only attracting 3 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the ad-coveted 18-49 demo.

But, the show’s fans apparently rallied in its second week. “Happy Endings'” ratings were up by 22 percent in the 18-49 demo at 8 p.m., and its second episode at 8:30 p.m. was up 43 percent in the demo over the previous week.

“Happy Endings” airs back-to-back episodes on Friday nights starting at 8/7c on ABC.
