Michael Jackson’s burial has been postponed from his 51st birthday, Aug. 29, to Sept. 3, family representatives said on Friday.
They did not give a reason for the date change.
The burial service will be held for friends and family at the Holly Terrace in the Great Mausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 7 p.m. PT.
The cemetery is set on hills about eight miles north of downtown L.A. The mausoleum houses a stained-glass replica of Leonardo da Vinci’s "The Last Supper" as well as replicas of Michelangelo’s statues.
The King of Pop’s father Joe Jackson had hinted to TMZ that the funeral could pushed to Aug. 31, but that day is the first day of school in that suburb of California.
The New York Times also said Friday that Spike Lee’s tribute block party, set for Aug. 29, has also been postponed. That event was supposed to take place at Fort Greene Park but could be moved because of the large crowds anticipated to show up.
