RAINN Fires Back at Controversial Kickstarter Seduction Guide

The organization launches an Indiegogo campaign in response

RAINN (The Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network) answered a controversial Kickstarter campaign that appeared to promote sexual assault with a crowdfunding effort of its own — on competitor site Indiegogo.

Ken Hoinsky launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the publication of his seduction guide, "Above the Game." He successfully raised $16,000, but stirred backlash online when passages appeared on Reddit that offered "advice" such as: "Don't ask for permission. Be dominant. Force her to rebuff your advances." Kickstarter apologized for hosting the campaign and donated $25,000 to RAINN.

Indiegogo then approached RAINN about launching a campaign in response to the "seduction guide." The nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization hopes to raise $15,000 in 30 days. The "rewards" for donation amounts range from $30, which will fund safety tips to 1,000 college students, to $1,000, which goes to RAINN's campaign to get more rape evidence kits tested for DNA.
