“A Star Is Born” actor Shangela will guest star on The CW’s upcoming “Riverdale” spinoff “Katy Keene” as a “ruthless” drag queen, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
The “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum is playing Devereaux, the pageant rival of Ginger Lopez/Jorge, played by Jonny Beauchamp. Her ruthless competitiveness is what keeps her on top.
Currently, Shangela’s character is set to appear in Episode 106 of the Lucy Hale-led series, which will premiere at midseason on The CW, but an individual with knowledge of the casting tells us she could come back for future episodes down the line.
D.J. “Shangela” Pierce is best known for competing on “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and her scene-stealing role as Lady Gaga’s drag mother in “A Star Is Born.” The drag queen recently completed a 184-plus city international tour, performing her comedy and cabaret act to sold-out audiences. Shangela performed a medley of Beyonce songs at the GLAAD Awards in Los Angeles back in March and hosted the GLAAD NY Awards show in May.
Next up for Shangela is HBO’s “We’re Here,” a six-part unscripted series that recruits small-town residents across America to participate in a one-night-only drag show. The show will debut this spring on HBO.
