The fourth season of HBO’s hit comedy series “Silicon Valley” returns this weekend, and the cast says fans can expect an upcoming “crisis of morality” which causes Richard to leave the group behind.
“I’m not sure how much we can say but I guess Richard goes off on his own,” Zach Woods, who plays Jared (also known as OJ also known as Donald), told TheWrap in a recent interview.
“Our company pivots to something else and Richard doesn’t like it, so he’s like, ‘I’m going to go off on my own,’” Kumail Nanjiani, who stars as Dinesh, added. “Not in an angry way!”
The guys of Pied Piper are just getting more “obsessed with money and image,” and Woods revealed that Richard will face a “crisis of morality at certain points” this season.
“Yeah, and he’s stuck so closely to his moral compass, but that whole thing gets challenged, let’s say!” Thomas Middleditch, who plays Richard and CEO of Pied Piper, added.
“Richard is basically the Starks in ‘Game of Thrones,’” Nanjiani chimed in. “They have too much honor, they have so much honor that they really can’t get success because they never compromise. So, this season, that’s one of the questions.”
And if Nanjiani had to be a “Game of Thrones” character, he would be one of those “Qarth weirdos,” he added.
Martin Starr plays Gilfoyle in the show that also features T.J. Miller, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Suzanne Cryer and Jimmy O. Yang. It follows six men who found a startup company in Silicon Valley and constantly face challenges and hurdles thrown their way by bigger companies.
Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky created the show, which first debuted in 2014.
The show’s fourth season returns to HBO on Sunday, April 23.
