‘Treasure Quest’ Season 3 Sneak Peek: Oh, THAT’S Why They Call It ‘Death Road’ (Exclusive Video)

This year, Shawn Cowles and the team will scare the s— out of some guide donkeys with a dynamite blast

And we thought the Mega Millions could make you rich. On Season 3 of Discovery Channel’s “Treasure Quest,” the gang is going after the ancient fortune of the Jesuits, which is reputedly worth $2 billion.

The Bolivian quest is quite dangerous, and many have died seeking the Sacambaya Treasure. In the third season’s first episode, the team of fortune finders must drive up Yungas Road, which is known as “Death Road” due to its narrow and steep drop-off.

As you can see in the above sneak peek video, which is exclusive to TheWrap, the winding roadway’s name fits.

Yungas Road is not the only obstacle the guys must traverse on their hunt of riches. They have an entire demolitions guy, Jack, to blast through a bunch of rock in the Bolivian mountains — you can imagine how much the guide donkeys love that. Actually, our readers don’t have to imagine anything there, as Jack goes a bit dynamite-happy in our exclusive teaser trailer.

And then there are the mountain lions, vampire bats, landslides, booby traps, and altitude sickness to contend with. Yeah, there’s a reason this plunder has yet to be unearthed.

“Treasure Quest” is produced for Discovery Channel by MAK Pictures. For MAK Pictures, executive producers are Mark Kadin, Will Ehbrecht and Anuj Majumdar. At Discovery, executive producers are Joseph Boyle and Michael Gara and producer is Greg Wolf.

The new season of “Treasure Quest” premieres Friday, August 24 at 9/8c on Discovery Channel.
