Moving to Tuesday, "American Idol" won out in a fierce competitive night for performance shows, leading its network, Fox, to an overall ratings win in the process
The "American Idol" penultimate episode for the season at 8 p.m. — which was preceded by a flurry of drama over finalist Lauren Alaina's ability to compete — was down 7 percent from last spring's performance finale, but still grabbed the top slot of the evening, garnering a 6.2 rating/18 share in the adults 18-49 demographic and 19.9 million total viewers.
The strong showing helped the "Glee" season finale the following hour, which was essentially flat with last season's swan song but up 28 percent in the demo from last week, taking a 4.6/11 in the demo and 12.1 million viewers. (The "Glee" finale also won the hour among adults 18-49, and the number two ratings slot for the evening overall.)

ABC's evening was dominated by "Dancing With the Stars," with its season finale delivering mixed results for the network.
The "DWTS" recap episode at 8 p.m. drew a 2.0/6 in the demo and 10.2 million total viewers, while the series' two-hour season results finale drew a 4.5/11 in the demo and 20.9 million total viewers — a 15 percent dip from its fall finale last November but a 15 percent increase over its spring finale last year (which was the show's lowest-ever spring finale showing.)
NBC's "The Voice," which has been won its Tuesday evening timeslot since its debut in late April, was down 16 percent compared to last week, perhaps due to the over-saturation of talent-competition shows on Tuesday night.
The show's 10 p.m. airing grabbed a 3.8/9 in the demo and 8.5 million total viewers. The "Biggest Loser" finale from 8-10 p.m. was also down, shedding 21 percentage points from last spring's finale with a 3.1/8 in the demo and 8 million total viewers.

CBS ran repeats throughout the evening, with an "NCIS" rerun at 8 p.m. kicking off the night with a 1.8/5 in the demo and 10.2 million total viewers; a previously aired "NCIS: Los Angeles" the following hour taking a 1.7/4 in the demo and 9.2 million total viewers; and another "NCIS" repeat closing the night with a 1.7/4 in the demo and 8.3 million total viewers.
