Ratings: ‘Nashville,’ ‘Chicago Fire’ Drop From Debuts; CBS Takes Night

"Modern Family" takes top honors in key demo and total viewers

ABC's new "Nashville" and NBC's "Chicago Fire" both dropped from last week's series premieres, while CBS's Wednesday night lineup remained largely steady to give the network an overall win for the night, according to preliminary numbers.

CBS drew first place in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic with a 2.7 rating/8 share and in total viewers with 10.8 million. "Survivor" at 8 p.m. posted a 2.7/8 and received 10.1 million total viewers, while "Criminal Minds" the following hour grabbed a 3.1/8 and had 11.8 million total viewers. "CSI" at 10 dropped slightly to a 2.4/7 and drew 10.6 million total viewers.

ABC grabbed second place in ratings and total viewers with a 2.6/7 and 8 million. "The Middle" at 8 inched up from last week for a 2.5/8 and drew 8.3 million total viewers, while the new comedy "The Neighbors" posted a 1.9/5 and took 6.5 million total viewers. "Modern Family" ay 9 was the night's top-rated and most-watched show with a  4.6/12 and 12.1 million total viewers. The season premiere of "Suburgatory" at 9:30 dropped 15 percent from last year's series debut, drawing a 2.8/7 and pulling in 7.6 million total viewers, while "Nashville" at 10 fell 29 percent from last week's series premiere to a 2.0/6 and drew 6.8 million total viewers.

Live sports programming and rain delays wreaked havoc with Fox's schedule and rendered the network's numbers unreliable, but Fox currently holds third place in ratings and total viewers with a 1.9/5 and 5.5 million.

Univision took fourth place in ratings and fifth in total viewers with a 1.6/4 and 3.7 million.

NBC came in fifth in ratings and fourth in total viewers with a 1.5/4 and 5.4 million. "Animal Practice" at 8 dipped to a 1.0/3 and had 3.8 million total viewers, while "Guys With Kids" at 8:30 ran even with last week for a 1.4/4 and took 4.3 million total viewers. "Law & Order: SVU" at 9 fell 11 percent to a 1.6/4 and drew 6.3 million total viewers, while "Chicago Fire" fell off 21 percent from last week's series premiere, taking a 1.5/4 and receiving 5.9 million total viewers.

At the CW, "Arrow" stayed on target following its strong series premiere last week, holding onto its rating of 1.3/4 — a particularly strong showing in the demo for the young-skewing network — and slipping slightly in total viewers for 3.5 million. Between "Arrow" and "Supernatural," the network averaged a 1.1/3 in the demo and 2.8 million total viewers.
