Erik Rivera Jokes That He Uses the ‘Latin Temper’ Stereotype to His Advantage on NuvoTV Special (Exclusive Video)

Former “Last Comic Standing” contestant headlines Saturday special “Erik Rivera: I’m No Expert”

Erik Rivera jokes about contentious topics in TheWrap’s exclusive preview from his upcoming NuvoTV comedy special, “Erik Rivera: I’m No Expert.” The special premieres Saturday at 10 p.m. ET.

The comedian, who previously appeared as a contestant on Season 8 of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing,” references Latino stereotypes in his routine and even touches upon the hot-button issue of domestic violence and how it affects his own relationship.

“My wife doesn’t speak Spanish. So, what I do now when I’m losing arguments — I yell at her in Spanish and leave the room,” Rivera said. “I go like ‘fruits and vegetables’ and then I storm out. It scares her.”

“But she gets nervous,” he continued. “She’s like ‘Oh my god, it’s his Latin temper, he might hit me, I’d better stop.”

In addition to his brief stint on “Last Comic Standing” — the comedian appeared in the season premiere, but did not advance — Rivera has performed on “The Tonight Show” and was previously attached to star in a family comedy based on his life and stand-up career. Eva Longoria‘s production company UnbeliEVAble Entertainment sold the project to NBC in 2013.

NuvoTV unveiled its new lineup in May, behind chief operating officer Jennifer Lopez, which included six music and entertainment series and specials, three unscripted dramas, two comedy series, and a couple of live boxing specials.

“Erik Rivera: I’m No Expert” premieres Saturday at 10 p.m. ET on NuvoTV.
