The Comedy Awards: Finally, an Entertaining Awards Show

Stephen Colbert Kanyes Jon Stewart’s speech, Wiig thanks the wrong Lornes, and Ty Burrell takes all the credit for “Modern Family”

Comedy Central's Comedy Awards took down every convention of pompous awards ceremonies, coming off like a welcome parody of an awards show. And it handed out some real awards.

Stephen Colbert hijacked Jon Stewart's acceptance speech. Ty Burrell took the credit for everything right about "Modern Family." With exquisite timing, Kristen Wiig thanked every Lorne she could think of, including her first agent — "I hope she's doing okay" — before remembering Lorne Michaels.

The show, taped March 26, aired Sunday. It used its lack of history to its advantage, keeping things lean and mean, free from sentiment and long looks back through comedy history.

The result was a show about comedy that was actually comedic. It was like watching a great movie about the Oscars ceremony: People celebrated their craft by doing it.

The winners also made fun of the politics of who-wins-what. The creators of "South Park" said getting an award from Comedy Central was like being named student of the month when your mom is the principal. And Tina Fey thanked the ceremony for being confident enough she would show up to give her the prize.

The full list of winners is after the video of Stewart's — sorry, Colbert's — speech:
