Josh Lucas has been cast as grief-stricken aviator Charles Lindbergh in Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar," while "The Closer" star Kyra Sedgwick will play Jeffrey Dean Morgan's ex-wife in Lionsgate's "Dibbuk Box," reports Deadline.
"J. Edgar" stars Leonardo DiCaprio as FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover and "The Social Network's" Armie Hammer as Hoover's right-hand man and reputed lover Clyde Tolson.
The film will evidently feature a subplot about "The Crime of the Century" -- the kidnapping and murder of Lindbergh's baby -- as Damon Herriman was previously cast as Bruno Hauptmann, the man who was tried, convicted and executed for the heinous act.
Hoover launched a federal inquiry to look into Hauptmann's conviction, which was publicly questioned after claims of intimidation and tampering were levied at investigators.
Eastwood is still casting the role of Helen Gandy, Hoover's long-time secretary, and though Charlize Theron was previously in the mix, she has since moved on to other projects.
Whoever does win the role will join a diverse cast that ranges from Oscar winner Judi Dench to "Gossip Girl" star Ed Westwick, who will play a young FBI agent tasked with writing Hoover's biography.
Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment will produce with Eastwood's Malpaso banner, while Warner Bros. will distribute the period picture.
As for Sedgwick, she'll star in "Dibbuk Box" as a mother whose youngest child becomes attached to an antique wooden box purchased at a yard sale. When the girl's behavior becomes more and more erratic, her divorced parents seek to decipher the mysterious carvings on the box, only to learn that it contains a spirit hell-bent on devouring its human host.
Ole Bernedal will direct from a script by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, while Ghost House Pictures principals Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert will produce.
Lionsgate will release the thriller on Oct. 28, 2011 in place of the studio's usual "Saw" sequel.
Sedgwick is represented by UTA and Impression Entertainment, while Lucas is repped by WME.
