Hollywood and the public at large took to Twitter and social media on Thursday to react to the sudden passing of Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, who apparently took his own life by hanging.

Linkin Park was one of the most popular alt-metal bands of the 2000s, starting with their 2000 debut rap-rock album “Hybrid Theory” that included hits like “One Step Closer.”

Bennington’s death was reported Thursday, the same day of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell’s birthday, who committed suicide in May. The Linkin Park frontman was close friends with Cornell and even shared this note to Cornell on Twitter following his passing.

Members of Linkin Park Mike Shinoda and Dave “Phoenix” Farrell have tweeted their thoughts, as well as collaborator Pusha T.
