Twentieth Century Fox Television has signed Bruce Margolis to a multiyear overall deal as a producer. His first project under the contract will be to co-executive produce Lee Daniels’ “Empire” follow-up, “Star.”

Slated for midseason, the drama begins production in Atlanta this summer. Margolis already helped produce the pilot.

“Bruce is an institution here at 20th, and the only thing better than having him as a production executive is to have him literally in the trenches, producing for us,” said Jonathan Davis, Fox president of Creative Affairs. “He’s a smart, creative guy who is terrific with talent and a perfectionist when it comes to the bringing the most to the screen. He’s also beloved at this studio so we couldn’t be happier that he’ll be our line producer on Lee and Tom’s (Donaghy) brilliant ‘Star.’”

“In my 18 years at 20th, I have been blessed to have been part of so many rewarding shows, including ‘The X-Files,’ ‘Prison Break,’ ‘Bones’ and of course, ’24,’” Margolis added. “I was able to travel the world, but the best part was always coming home to my family at the studio. This deal not only allows me to spread my wings as a producer, but to continue to work with the best executives in the business. I’m grateful to Dana Walden, Gary Newman, Jonnie Davis, Howard Kurtzman and Jim Sharp for this opportunity.”

Margolis last served as senior vice president of production at the studio, a position he held for nearly two decades.

He began his career as a production assistant at Aaron Spelling Productions, rising to location manager, a role he also held with a number of production companies before taking on a production executive position at MTM.
