Tveit, who proved his chops in "Hairspray," "Wicked," "Catch Me If You Can" and "next to normal" on Broadway, will play Enjolras, the charismatic and idealistic leader of a group of student revolutionaries.
The role puts Tveit — already a well-regarded stage actor — in one of Hollywood's highest-profile projects. It stars Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne and Amanda Seyfried, and is being directed by Tom Hooper, who won the Academy Award for directing "The King's Speech."
William Nicholson ("Gladiator"), Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg wrote the screenplay.
The movie has been set for a Dec. 7 release.
Tveitt is represented by CAA and Elin Flack.
