Alan Perris, the chief operating officer of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and Academy Foundation, will retire at the end of the year, the Academy said on Monday. Perris has been with the Television Academy since early 2006.
Perris, who oversees the day-to-day activities of the Academy and its Foundation, announced his retirement to the Academy’s Executive Committee and Board of Governors last February.
During his tenure, Perris also oversaw the expansion of the Emmy Magazine from six to nine issues per year and helped to restore the Hall of Fame ceremony to an annual event.
Perris, whose career includes tenures at Warner Bros., Sony Pictures Television and the Hallmark Cable Channel, said that following his retirement he plans to spend time with his friends and family — and more time on the golf course.
"It has truly been a pleasure to head up these two fine staffs representing the iconic brand of television excellence, the Emmy,” Perris said. "I look back with great pride over my 47 years in this wonderful industry, and now will pursue the things I love including spending time with family, friends and improving my golf game."
