“Alita: Battle Angel,” Fox’s action, sci-fi epic from Robert Rodriguez and producer James Cameron, brought in $2.4 million in Wednesday box office previews ahead of it opening on Thursday. It will open on 3,790 screens this Valentine’s Day.

The romantic comedy with Rebel Wilson “Isn’t It Romantic” and the horror sequel “Happy Death Day 2U” opened on Wednesday and did not have previews on Tuesday. But Warner Bros.’ “Isn’t It Romantic” has already made $1.8 million on Wednesday. And “Happy Death Day 2U” earned $1 million, matching the preview total that the first “Happy Death Day” made in October 2017. Fandango reports that “Alita” is the top ticket seller on their site, with “Isn’t It Romantic” a close second.

“Alita” isn’t projected to make more than $30 million over the five-day holiday weekend through President’s Day, according to independent trackers, despite being made on a budget of at least $150 million.

“2U” was made by Blumhouse for a slim $9 million, and it’s projected to open to around $28 million from 3,000 screens over the 6-day holiday through President’s Day.

“Isn’t It Romantic” is in the same range, projected to open to between $20-22 million over the 6-day weekend.
