Seyfried’s casting begs the question of what will become of Mila Kunis, who played Wahlberg’s love interest in the original movie. Kunis is expected to have a small role in the sequel, according to a studio insider, though Seyfried will play the female lead.

Universal is already invested in Seyfried, who will star opposite Rebel Wilson in the studio’s comedy “He’s F-ing Perfect.” She also starred in Universal’s hit musical “Les Miserables.” The studio will release “A Million Ways to Die in the West” on May 30.
