Christmas came a little early for nostalgic gamers this year, with Amazon teaming up with Sega to re-release 25 classic games, including “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Streets of Rage.”
The games will be available in a Sega Classics bundle for Amazon Fire TV customers and will cost $14.99. Sega fans won’t need to buy any consoles or controllers to relive their childhood, they can use their Fire TV remotes to play the games.
The bundle comes months after Sega Genesis celebrated its 30th anniversary. The console was Sega’s top gaming system until the Saturn debuted in Japan in 1994.
“Sonic,” Sega’s trademark franchise, clearly leads the way, but gamers have plenty of other old-school options to choose from, like the first three editions of both “Golden Axe” and “Streets of Rage.”
The Sega bundle follows a retro trend set by PlayStation and Nintendo in recent years. The NES Classic has been an especially big hit for Nintendo — outselling Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and its own Switch console in June.
As for Amazon, the Sega bundle adds to its growing push into video games. Most notably Twitch, its live streaming platform, has become a mainstay for gamers by broadcasting eSports competitions.
Below is a complete list of the 25 games that’ll launch today in the “Classics” bundle:
Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic CD, The Revenge of Shinobi, Ristar, Golden Axe I-III, Beyond Oasis, Decap Attack, ESWAT: City Under Siege, Streets of Rage I-III, Gunstar Heroes, Dynamite Headdy, Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, Columns, Bio-Hazard Battle, Comix Zone, Alien Storm, Bonanza Bros, Gain Ground, Altered Beast, Sonic Spinball.
