‘Atlanta,’ ‘This Is Us’ and ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Lead TCA Awards Nominations

FX nearly catches up to HBO, the most-nominated network

In case you haven’t heard, television critics love “Atlanta,” “This Is Us” and “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

The Television Critics Association (TCA) revealed the nominees on Monday for its 33rd annual TCA Awards, a list top-lined by those three very different series with 4 nods apiece. With 12 nominations, HBO is again the No. 1 network — though FX’s 11 made it close.

Program of the Year will come down to “Atlanta,” “Big Little Lies,” “Stranger Things,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “The Leftovers” and “This Is Us.”

Also worth singling out, Carrie Coon received the rare double-nod for her performances in both “The Leftovers” and “Fargo.”

“This was truly a landmark season for diversity in television, and the TCA nominations reflect this. Our members have chosen a variety of series that celebrate and represent a wide spectrum of performances,” said TCA president Amber Dowling. “With so many great programs–both new and returning–it was a real challenge for our members to whittle these nominees down. We’re excited to see which programs and performers make the cut as voting now gets underway to determine the TV standouts of the 2016-17 season.”

Shows airing the majority of their season between June 1, 2016 and May 31, 2017 were eligible for consideration. The winners will be unveiled on the TCA Awards ceremony on Saturday, August 5 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Kristin Chenoweth will host the night’s festivities.
