HBO has renewed “Ballers” for a third season, TheWrap has learned.
The series stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a former pro athlete Spencer Strathmore, who now works as a money manager for other athletes in Miami.
Created by Stephen Levinson, the comedy series kicked off its 10-episode second season July 17. The premiere episode of the new season is already at 5.7 million viewers in delayed viewing. “Ballers” first season went on to average 9.1 million viewers per episode, HBO’s biggest half-hour in six years.
“Dwayne Johnson, Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and the rest of the ‘Ballers’ team have once again delivered a winner for our viewers,” said HBO programming president Casey Bloys in a statement. “We look forward to another great season of ‘Ballers’ next year.”
In addition to Johnson, the cast includes Rob Corddry, John David Washington, Omar Benson Miller, Donovan Carter, Troy Garity, Jazmyn Simon, London Brown, Arielle Kebbel, Dulé Hill, Richard Schiff and Andy Garcia.
Levinson serves as an executive producer along with Mark Wahlberg, Johnson, Johnson’s manager and business partner Dany Garcia, Peter Berg, Evan Reilly, Rob Weiss, Julian Farino, Denis Biggs. Johnson and Garcia’s Seven Buck Productions produces the show.
The series is just one of the many irons Johnson has in the fire. In addition to his red hot movie career, he also recently launched his own lifestyle brand, Project Rock, and his own YouTube channel, Seven Bucks Digital Studios.
