‘Bates Motel’s’ Norman Cuddles With Mom, Watches Women Undress in Creepy First Look (Video)

“We all go a little mad sometimes,” Vera Farmiga tells Freddie Highmore when the A&E drama returns on March 9 with Season 3

Bloody fruit, dead birds and hints of incest — oh my.

A&E delivered a first look at Season 3 of its returning drama “Bates Motel” on Wednesday, and it was exactly as creepy as fans might imagine.

Set to a haunting cover version of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence,” the new trailer sees Norman (Freddie Highmore) struggling to manage his increasingly frequent psychotic episodes as well as his overbearing mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga).

“It’s not normal,” Norman’s brother, Dylan (Max Thieriot), says over images his sibling and mother cuddling. “Norman’s 18; he shouldn’t be sleeping in the same bed with his mom.”

Norman is all smiles and giggles when his mother gives him a promotion at their titular motel. “I’m going to make you motel manager,” she says.

“Alrighty, mother,” Norman laughs. “I’ll be your motel manager.”

But his mood swings quickly: “I think one of us has a problem and I’m tired of the assumption being that it’s me,” he yells at his mom.

The trailer is filled with a slew of disturbing images, including bloody apples, Norman watching women undress, bloody birds and a bloated corpse floating in the creek by their motel — but are they delusions in the protagonist’s head?

“We all go a little mad sometimes,” Norma tells her son.

The series, a contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock‘s “Psycho,” returns to A&E for Season 3 on Monday, March 9 at 9 p.m.
