Batman is now a Guinness World Record holder. Or rather, a guy who wishes he was Batman.
Julian Checkley built an incredibly detailed Batman cosplay that is so good, it set a world record for the most functional gadgets on a cosplay suit. He will be immortalized in the upcoming Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition 2017, which comes out in September.
Checkley, a special creature effects expert, designed the get up based on the “Arkham Origins” video game. Most of it was built using a 3D printer and then moulded and cast in urethane rubber.
It includes 23 functional Batman gadgets, including a grapnel gun, a video screen mounted to the arm, smoke bombs, a Bat-tracking device, and much more.
“There were many long hours trying devising the gadgets and finding ways to store them on the suit” Checkley told Guinness. “They are classic gadgets but also some are specific to Batman: Arkham Origins. I am immensely proud of my Guinness World Records title and to be part of the Gamer’s Edition is just the next level.”
When in the full suit, Checkley stands an imposing 6-foot-10, including the Bat ears. So would be evildoers out there better watch out, because a real Dark Knight is out on the streets now.
