Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller is out for the rest of the season after dislocating his knee while playing against the New Orleans Saints Sunday.

The nasty injury came when he caught the pass in the end zone and landed in a way that his knee buckled under him.

Dr. David J. Chao wrote in a piece for the San Diego Union-Tribune: “A dislocation equals a multi-ligament injury. Miller has torn at least two ligaments, likely three. As predicted, he went to the hospital to be checked for artery damage.”

Judging by the video, Dr. Chao said that major ligament reconstruction surgery is likely in Miller’s future: “Unfortunately, with this severe injury and his age of 33 years, this is considered career threatening.”

The gruesome video and Twitter reactions are below.

Football fans were heartbroken by the news… not just because of Miller’s injury, but also because his touchdown was reversed and the Bears lost the game.
