Here’s Proof You Don’t Need to Wear Makeup to Run Beauty Brand (Video)

Power Women Breakfast New York: Beautycon Media CEO Moj Mahdara points out that men run Estee Lauder

Beautycon Media CEO Moj Mahdara joked that she once exposed sexism when asked how she runs a beauty company — despite not wearing makeup.

“You should ask John Demsey and Mr. Rose, who runs Estee Lauder,” Mahdara said as the crowd erupted with applause on Thursday at TheWrap’s Power Women Breakfast in New York.

The Female Quotient CEO Shelley Zalis described Mahdara as a “badass” who is “redefining beauty around the world.” Mahdara’s company aims to “challenge traditional beauty standards.” And the CEO doesn’t wear makeup herself.

Mahdara implied that if men can run beauty companies, then a female executive who choses not to wear makeup shouldn’t be an issue. She joked that the person who asked the question realized it was sexist immediately.

The Power Women Breakfast series brings together influential women of entertainment, media, technology and brands in key cities to network and connect. TheWrap has built a broad community of professional women who are decision makers and mothers, leaders and wives, innovators and activists.

The franchise is now in four cities Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.
