When news broke on Wednesday that Ben Carson was stuck in an elevator while he was touring an affordable housing complex in Miami, folks on Twitter naturally had fun with it.
“If it was a United elevator, Ben Carson would have been freed. Albeit slightly battered and bruised,” one user tweeted, referring to a recent incident where a man was forcibly dragged off a United flight, leaving him bloodied.
“Ben Carson is literally in the sunken place right now lol,” tweeted another, referencing Jordan Peele’s critically-acclaimed film, “Get Out.” The “sunken place” has become an expression of frustration for people who feel more marginalized than ever in the age of Trump.
According to CNN, Carson was rescued from an elevator by the Miami Fire and Police Departments on Wednesday while he was touring an affordable housing complex in Overtown, a Miami neighborhood.
The Housing and Urban Development Secretary was in there for approximately 20 minutes with his wife before he was freed — and waiting outside the elevator was former Miami Heat and NBA star Alonzo Mourning.
Great meeting w/ Alonzo Mourning who is doing great work with low income housing & thanks to the hard working @miamipd and @cityofmiamifire pic.twitter.com/tl5UtFUpXU

A Miami Herald reporter covering the tour tweeted about the incident as well, writing, “20 minutes later @SecretaryCarson is freed from stuck elevator at Courtside Morning Apts. Alonzo Mourning looks more relieved than anyone.”

If you were told to guess "Which member of Trump's cabinet got stuck in an elevator?" you'd say "Ben Carson" without even thinking about it.

Or is the elevator a metaphor for the sunken place that Ben Carson truly is stuck in. pic.twitter.com/P7VHVvJjlB

Give Ben Carson a break. There are people that push the elevator buttons for him at Trump Tower.
